Vulcan Elements Durham magnet facility
Vulcan Elements' sintered NdFeB magnet manufacturing and R&D site in Durham, North Carolina (Research Triangle Park), opened at small commercial scale in March 2025. In November 2025 the Office of Strategic Capital announced a $620 million conditional loan commitment to Vulcan (part of a joint $700 million commitment with ReElement Technologies) and the Commerce Department's CHIPS Program Office signed a preliminary non-binding $50 million letter of intent, backing Vulcan's plan to scale to 10,000 metric tonnes of annual magnet production; the November 2025 announcements do not specify the site of the full-scale expansion.
