Geology

The stream sediments containing the monazite placers are remarkedly similar from the Catawba River on the north to the Savannah River on the south. Monazite is generally found in all [alluvium] units, but commonly is most abundant in the gravel at the bottom of the deposit and least abundant in the clay." (Staatz and others (1979))
