Geology

The heavy mineral concentrations are genetically related to a series of parallel-trending beach ridges composed for the most part of fine to very fine quartz sand. "Heavy mineral concentrations begin at the land surface and extend downward to an average depth of about 7 ft." (Pirkle and others (1991))
